Donations In Kind (DIK) is the program whereby Rotarians and Rotary Clubs source surplus goods and products within Australia that have no further use here. These goods however, are valuable to those in needy countries. District 9810 is part of the RAWCS Southern Region and particpates in DIK in conjunction with other Victorian Rotary Districts. A central co-ordination committee stores, packs and dispatches the goods to needy countries. There are are currently four DIK storage depots in the the Melbourne Metropolitan area located at Essendon Airport, Maribyrnong, Coburg and Altona as well as regional stores at Pakenham and Geelong. Not all second-hand or surplus goods are suitable for use overseas and there are strict procedures and significant procedures to ship goods overseas.
Clubs wishing to participate in Donations In Kind should contact one of the following Rotarians to check suitability:
PP David Meller (RC Strathmore) Southern region coordinator
PP Bill Dagg (RC West Footscray) for East Timor donations
PP John Gander - contact John via the email link at the foot of this page
For clubs wishing to participate, it is important to note that funding is not readily available for the transport of goods, and clubs should include the cost of transport in their budgets.
Further information on the range of goods collected and distributed under Donations-in-Kind can be found in the 2007-08 DIK Annual Report of RAWCS Southern Region (covering Rotary districts in Victoria and Tasmania).
